Simple Minds

Simple Minds, es una banda de rock escocesa, representante del género New Wave. Conquistaron el mercado americano y de todo el mundo, posicionándose en el primer puesto de los rankings, gracias al hit Don't you (Forget about me), parte de la banda sonora del film de John Hughes "The Breakfast Club".

En 1978, Jim Kerr y Charlie Burchill pertenecían al grupo punk Johnny and the Self-Abusers. Poco tiempo después, dichos músicos se desintegrarían para formar Simple Minds. Tony Donald se integró en el bajo, y Brian McGee en la batería, así como Mick McNeil en los teclados. Tony Donald fue remplazado ese mismo año por Derek Forbes. Sus primeros discos se caracterizan por cambios de música, desde el pop, hasta el euro-disco. Sin embargo, un disco más oscuro y maduro salió a la luz para favorecer a la crítica: Real to Real Cacophony.
Posteriormente grabarían discos con un toque más pop como Sons and Fascination y Sister Feelings Call, cuya caraterística fue que salieron en formato de combo, y que posteriormente fueron separados para su venta individual. Después de esperar el éxito de una forma más palpable, el álbum New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84), se convirtió en un álbum hit en los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica. Al mismo tiempo, sufrían la separación de McGee, y entraba a la alineación Mel Gaynor. Parecía que el grupo pasaba por un buen momento, Steve Lillywhite producía el disco Sparkle in the Rain, el cual tenía buena acogida en el público, y al mismo tiempo Jim Kerr, contraía matrimonio con Chrissie Hynde, vocalista del grupo The Pretenders. Posteriormente, ambos grupos hacían presentaciones en común. En el año 1985 apareció el disco Once upon a time que terminó por consolidarles en lo más alto del panorama musical. En el año 1989 sacaron el disco Streets Fight Years, con el que cerraban una década plagada de éxitos. Los Simple Minds tuvieron una evolución en esos primeros años 80 muy sobresaliente. Fueron impresionantes sus sonidos de principio de década y como evolucionaron a un sonido más accesible para el gran público a lo largo del tiempo. Comparándoles con otros grupos de su quinta, como U2..., la superioridad, modernidad y originalidad de sus trabajos les hacían ser el mejor grupo del momento. Como prueba, sus más de 25 millones de discos vendidos en todo el mundo. Su liderazgo acabaría en 1987 cuando el grupo irlandés sacó el disco "The Joshua Tree".
Después de varios álbumes en el mercado, no lograron conciliar el éxito desde su álbum Real life de 1991. Actualmente, su disco Black & White 050505, ha dejado en claro que nunca es tarde para regresar a los senderos de la fama.
